The IB Diploma Programme is designed to provide students with a balanced and comprehensive academic experience across languages, humanities, sciences, and mathematics.
At Christ Junior College – Residential (IB), students study a minimum of six subjects, carefully selected to ensure both breadth and depth of learning.
Students must choose one subject from each of the following five groups:
- Group 1 – Studies in Language and Literature
- Group 2 – Language Acquisition
- Group 3 – Individuals and Societies
- Group 4 – Sciences
- Group 5 – Mathematics
One additional subject from either Group 3 (Individuals and Societies) or Group 4 (Sciences)
This structure enables students to strengthen their academic foundation in humanities or sciences while maintaining a well-rounded curriculum. Group 6 (The Arts) is not offered at our institution.
Each subject is available at either Standard Level (SL) or Higher Level (HL). Students are required to select:
- Three subjects at Higher Level (HL)
- Three subjects at Standard Level (SL)
Higher Level subjects involve greater depth of study and increased instructional hours, allowing students to specialise in areas aligned with their future academic and career aspirations, while Standard Level subjects ensure continued engagement across a broad range of disciplines.
In addition to their six subjects, all students complete the IB Core, comprising:
- Theory of Knowledge (TOK) – developing critical thinking and reflection on the nature of knowledge
- Extended Essay (EE) – an independent, in-depth research project
- Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) – experiential learning that promotes personal development and community engagement
Together, the subject groups and IB Core form a cohesive educational framework that nurtures intellectual curiosity, academic excellence, and global citizenship, preparing students for success at leading universities worldwide and beyond.
