Group 1

Studies in Language and Literature

It is a requirement of the programme that the student studies at least one subject from Group 1.

In Group 1, the student will study English A: Language and Literature.


Group 2

Language Acquisition / Language B

It is a requirement of the programme that the student studies at least one subject from Group 2.

Language B courses are intended for the student who had some previous experience of learning the language. They may be studied at either higher level or standard level for Hindi and only at standard level for French.

Language ab initio courses are for the beginners (that is, the student who has little or no previous experience of learning / knowledge on the subject) which is done atstandard level.


Group 3

Individuals and Societies

Students are required to choose one subject from each of the six academic areas, including one from Group 3. They can choose an additional subject from Groups 3 or 4 by completely eliminating Group 6.

Subjects available are

-Business Management

-Economics

-Information Technology in a Global Society (ITGS)

-Psychology

All of these subjects may be studied at either Higher Level or Standard Level.


Group 4

Sciences


It is a requirement of the programme that the student opt at least one subject from Group 4.

Subjects available are
-Physics
-Biology
-Chemistry
-Computer Science
-Environmental Systems and Societies (Interdisciplinary)

All of these subjects may be studied at either Higher Level or Standard Level.


Group 5

Mathematics

It is a requirement of the programme that the student opt at least one course in Mathematics. Three courses in Mathematics are available:

-Mathematics Analysis and Applications

-Mathematics Applications and Interpretation

All of these subjects may be studied at either Higher Level or Standard Level.


Group 6

The Arts

IB Diploma Programme students have the option of choosing one of the following subjects in lieu of Group 1-5.

THE CORE COMPONENTS

The Core Curriculum Model consists of three components and is mandatory for the successful completion of the programme and certification.


1. The Extended Essay

The Extended Essay consists of 4,000 words, offers the opportunity for the IB student to investigate a topic of special interest, among the SL/HL subjects which he has opted. It acquaints him with the independent research and writing skills expected at university. It is intended to promote high-level research and writing skills, intellectual discovery and creativity, resulting in approximately 40 hours of work.


2. Theory of Knowledge (TOK)

The interdisciplinary TOK course is designed to develop a coherent approach to learning that transcends and unifies the academic areas and encourages appreciation of other cultural perspectives.


3. Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS)

CAS is at the heart of the Diploma Programme, involving students in a range of activities that take place alongside their academic studies throughout the IB Diploma Programme.
